This write-up covers the seat bottom only, the cushion and everything underneath it. The seatback is its own animal and we haven't gotten into it yet, partly because the bottom alone turned out to be enough to chew on for one stage of the project. That's not an arbitrary stopping point either. It's where the bottom assembly naturally ends and the seatback assembly begins, and it happens to land at a convenient place to pause anyway, which we'll get to by the end of this.

This is the first article in a series we're publishing as we go, which is not something we typically do. Honestly speaking its not really known if we can find a solution for these seats. Our customer Kohl's 2021 LX570 already has scheel-mann Vario F Klima seats in it, installed on the same generic mount most people use for this kind of swap: Remove the OEM seats, bolt on generic mount, bolt on scheel-mann seat.

The OCS pad is bonded directly to the foam inside the OEM seat cushion at the factory - the entire face of the pad is glued down. Getting it out means peeling the leather cover back first, which means cutting hog rings.

Installing scheel-mann seats into the Porsche 996 chassis is possible, but space constraints under the carpet and along the center console require careful consideration. The photos shown document a minor but deliberate modification to the plastic trim panel beneath the carpet that allows proper seat positioning while preserving protection for the factory wiring harness.
