FAQs: 5th Gen 4Runner

This FAQ covers the 2010 and newer 5th Gen Toyota 4Runner. The driver side kit is available now. The passenger side is in development.

Fitment

Q: Which sides can I upgrade?

A: The driver side, either as a mounting kit or a seat and mount package. The passenger side is in development. Contact us and we'll let you know when it's ready.

Q: Which seats does it fit?

A: scheel-mann Vario F and Vario F XXL, in heated or KLIMA heated and cooled versions. All upholstery materials, colors and backrest heights are supported.

Power seat and seat height

Q: Do I keep my power seat?

A: You keep powered fore-aft. Toyota built the 5th Gen rails and fore-aft motor as one assembly, so our kit reuses them. Everything else is manual, and the power height adjustment is removed. A fully manual setup isn't possible on this platform.

Q: Which harness do I need?

A: Every 5th Gen 4Runner we've seen has a powered driver seat, so the kit is built around it. The harness depends on whether your seat is power only or power with factory heat. For power only, use the fore-aft harness for seats without factory heaters. For power with factory heat, use the harness set for powered and heated seats. Either one connects the factory fore-aft motor to a switch on the kit's side panel, with no splicing.

Q: My 4Runner has seat position memory. Will it work?

A: Yes. Seat memory only changes the plug at the fore-aft motor. Tell us when you order and we'll send the harness with the right plug.

Heating & Cooling

Q: Can my factory dash buttons control the scheel-mann seat heat?

A: Yes, if your 4Runner came with factory heated seats. The included harness lets your original dash buttons run the scheel-mann heater. Without factory heat, you use the scheel-mann heater controls.

Q: How is KLIMA cooling controlled?

A: Separately from the heat, with the round switches that come with the scheel-mann KLIMA seat. Most people mount them in the center console. We're developing a factory-style cooling control.

Q: What is the $100 core charge?

A: Factory heat integration needs one connector from your original seat heater harness, and that connector is no longer sold new. We ship you a donor connector and add a $100 core charge at checkout. Send your old harness back in the prepaid padded envelope we include, and we refund the $100 as soon as it arrives.

Airbags and safety

Q: Will I get an airbag light?

A: No, when it's installed per the instructions. The factory seat belt sensor is retained, every other SRS system stays active, and the in-seat airbag that comes out with any aftermarket seat is replaced by the vehicle-specific airbag proxy included in the kit.

Installation

Q: How long does it take?

A: Typically 3 to 4 hours. You remove the factory driver seat and partially take it apart to pull out the powered rail and motor assembly. We recommend advanced mechanical and electrical experience, or an installer from our installer directory.

Q: What comes in the kit?

A: The seat pan, seat belt bracket and spacer, powered side panel, power seat harness and switch, heater extension harness, KLIMA extension harness when needed, harness mount, complete hardware kit, our torque wrench and spring scale, the airbag proxy and the installation manual. An under-seat storage box with a USB pass-through is available as an add-on.
