FAQs

Do scheel-mann seats come with airbags? No, scheel-mann (and all aftermarket seat manufacturers) does not offer a replacement seat with airbags. Upgrading to aftermarket seats means understanding that you will be potentially swapping out to a non-airbag seat.
-
What if I wanted something more custom on my seats?Thru scheel-mann we offer a large selection of standard configurations that work well for a wide variety of vehicles. They keep those standard configurations in stock, ready to ship, in their Portland Oregon warehouse. The standard configurations are typically a cloth center with leatherette bolsters in a complimentary color. Due to the tight compound curves and inflection points on the side bolsters, it is not possible to cover them with most cloth materials, so their bolsters are typically leather or leatherette. But available materials range from: • Basketweave cloth • Microwave cloth • Rodeo plaid cloth • Alcantara • Leatherette and Velour • Real Leather • Various color stitching You can read more about upholstery options here: https://scheel-mann.com/pages/upholstery

How do I adjust the seat/what do the knobs do?

My question is how much of a difference do they make in your opinion? Is it worth it for long term purposes? I ask these questions because I have to go through a back surgery next week. That and the hard truth of we spend an unreasonable amount of time commuting nowadays ergonomics is becoming increasingly important.Luckily, and knock on wood, some have yet to experience back issues that plague millions of folks. But, every single order we have gotten to date, has been because of chronic back problems and they are just looking for relief because of exactly what you are saying, long commutes or just long trips. We have heard back from all of those customers and all are saying roughly the same thing; these seats make driving in their truck much much more bearable. Zero regrets from any of our customers. As for an OPINION, we will freely admit that when first seen these seats five or so years ago, just didn't understand the price or the need. But my butt didn't feel what the big deal was. At that point I had only sat in the seats, never driven in them. Fast forward to nine months ago and I needed to drive for 9 hours straight and I wasn't looking forward to it. At about two hours I would be sore but no underlying back issues. Just sore. This time I took our Tacoma with the scheel-manns. I didn't feel the 9 hours. I was fine. I was gobsmacked. I never gave them the chance and when I finally did I then realized that these seats make a huge difference on long trips. I had an Audi with Recaros. That car came with an alarm warning you about sitting in the seats for two hours. The warning about the seats was a HUGE "HEY DUMMY YOU'VE BEEN DRIVING FOR TWO HOURS GO STRETCH". Yet if my transmission was dying and the engine was puking and the tires were blown all I'd ever get was a yellow engine icon.

Does the heating include the control, either manual or automatic, for variably regulating the level of heat? Or as supplied can the heat be switched full on or full off only? There are two round switches with Klima: Heat-off/lo/hi Cool-off/lo/hi And YES you can run heat and cool at the same time.
-
What is the install time for a pair of seats? This will obviously be varying depending on the skill and experience of the installer but generally speaking you can expect between 4-6 hours to install a pair of scheel-mann seats and a set of Tolerance STACK seat adapters. The passenger seat of course taking the bulk of the time due to the stock load-cells for the occupancy sensors.
-
What if my late model Tacoma came with a powered seat?First issue is when you swap out your powered seat you will be swapping in a totally manual scheel-mann seat. Second issue is the driver side seat rails are specific to the powered seat and thus cannot be used in this application. But, the good news this is remedied by replacing your existing seat rails with manual seat rails. These can be found on EBAY or from a junk yard. When necessary we can sometimes hunt these down on your behalf. Contact us for more info.
-
Why aren't armrest options available for my Tacoma?Simply put armrests will not fit. Between both the B-pillar and the center console there is no room to add an armrest without interfering.
-
I don't have heated seats now, what do I need to add them? All scheel-mann seats come included with heated seats. If your truck never came with heated seats then all you will need is: • Switched power feed to power the heated seats • Ground location • Location to mount the switches to operate the seat heaters
-
I have OEM seat heaters, how do I integrate the new seat heaters? We've taken the many extra steps to figure this out and make it as painless as possible. When ordering your seats you will be given the option to add the required harness and bracket to your order.
-
Do I need to destroy my original seats in order to install your kit(s)?Technically, YES. The reason for this is you will need your original seat rails removed from the seats in order to correctly bolt on all of the components necessary for a proper install. You only need the driver side rails so the rest of the seat is fine. But on the passenger side you will also need the SRS computer and load-cell sensors. If you have a pristine set of seats that you plan on reselling on the open market then we recommend find a used set of rails from EBAY or a local junk yard.
-
How do you move the seat back and forth and up and down?If you have manual seats now you are re-using your old seat rails, front seat slide handle, and seat belt mount. If you have powered seats now you will need a manual seat slider/handle donor. There is no up or down in a manual seat, same with our solution. But with with the scheel-mann seat you can extend the bottom of the seat for greater thigh support.
-
Do you have or will have a system to bypass the sensors for both driver and passenger side? When discussing "sensors", there is a an occupancy sensor on the driver's side along with an airbag SRS connector for the side airbag mounted in the seat AND the seat belt sensor. Our system keeps that occupancy sensor and seatbelt sensor in place because you maintain your existing floor mounted seat rails with the Hall effect sensor. When you switch out to an aftermarket seat you eliminate the airbag, so we have a "proxy" that plugs in its place that allows the airbag system to continue functioning correctly, as if the side airbag was still there. Now on the passenger side there is no Hall effect sensor, it's instead a series of four sensors making up the load-cell. Our setup for the passenger keeps those four load cell sensors on the rail but in a new location. Our kit of course also does the same for the airbag via an additional airbag proxy and by also incorporating the existing passenger seatbelt.
-
Is this finally an option to lower the seat?Lower? not necessarily. For the passenger side we spent an absurd amount of time to NOT go higher because of the load-cells which is what pushed us to actually move the load-cell locations. Now the passenger side is at the same height as OEM and we included the front rake that everyone complains about so no need for those jacker things. But on the driver side we had many options but all of our testing pointed us to where you see it now. It's basically at the same "butt height" as the oem setup but still moving the front edge up for added rake.
-
The passenger seat is more expensive than the Tacoma driver's seat? That is correct. The driver side is easy and basically just a seat pan. Nothing else to worry about. The passenger side is a pain because you have the SRS, the seat belt, and the load-cell occupancy sensors to worry about. Especially given that the Tacoma SRS system is a three stage seatbelt restraining system and the front airbag is also three stage (OFF/CHILD/ADULT). To keep all of the system functioning happily with NO warning lights we had to go to great lengths to develop a happy working system. This isn't anywhere as simple as the driver side is.
-
Is the heated seat still controlled from the dash buttons? Or is it a button on the seat?An inoperable button on the dash AND a replacement non-OEM button somewhere on the center console (that does the same function), didn't sit right with us. So we install a thermistor temp sensor, with the same outputs as your factory seat, into the Scheel-Mann seat. Then we tie back into the factory system allowing OEM button to operate like factory. We think that's pretty sick. ;)
-
What if my Tacoma came with bench seats? To date we have not had access to confirm if our solution will work to convert an OEM bench-seat equipped Tacoma with dual bucket seats. We do however have some anecdotal evidence that it could still bolt in just fine but everything from the SRS, to the seat belt, to the occupancy sensors could be different for bench seats.
-
Can the Klima seats be made to work in a Tacoma without OEM heaters?Yes both the heated Vario and heated/cooled Klima Vario seats can be outfitted onto your Tacoma without factory heated seats without an issue. Scheel-Mann supplies the wiring/switch kit needed depending on the seat type you decide.
-
Do you know if the "Seat Jackers" used in addition to the Tolerance STACK bracket provided create an excessive lift?Ok so keep in mind that we designed the front seat angulation to basically mimic those seat jackers type products since so many were already using them. That means if you use seat jackers-type lifts you will make that angle on the front of the seat more extreme, by 3-4 degrees. Now you can get around that by adding spacers on the rear of the seats as well to match but of course you lose approx 1” of overall headroom in doing so. BTW, this is only if you are considering this for the drivers seat. Plenty of room under there. The passenger seat has cross-members redesigned and the load cell sensors are moved inboard so not a lot of usable space under there. We did design a storage box for both sides but the passenger one is too small for a compressor.
-
Ok sorta interesting although for 5th gens... you're going from a power adjustable seat to manual adjusting, so isn't that already a downgrade?Correct, for those 5th Gen 4Runners that come with power adjustable seats, if you go ANY aftermarket direction you are switching out with a manual seat. There are those that will never give up that option and there are those that are more than happy to get rid of their stock seats for a myriad of reasons. Those reasons are subjective/very personal. For those looking to switch, we can help.
-
I'm assuming these don't have built in heaters either?ALL scheel-mann seats come standard with heated seats and we go way out of our way to find plug-n-play solutions to make that easy. In fact you can now get heated AND ventilated seats with their Klima model of seats. We are actually designing our bracket setup to handle both standard Vario and Klima seats.
-
Is there no passenger kit for the 4th Gen 4Runners?Not currently. The occupancy sensor is different for the passenger side that is an integrated pressure pad/lower foam component that we are currently working on a solution for.

Where does the mount put the scheel-mann seat in the FJ Cruiser since it has adjustable height seats from the factory?Unfortunately there is isn't a perfect measurement for this because the age and overall condition of the OEM seats changes any actual measurements. The difference between two FJ Cruisers could be an inch. What we did was estimated the center point of the overall travel and we hit JUST under the halfway point. For example, on the FJ Cruiser seat we have access to, we got the following measurements from cushion to seat rail mounting bolt: • 4.375" on the low setting • 6.187" on the high setting So on the Tolerance Stack mount with the scheel-mann seat we placed the height at: • 5.0625"
-
On my FJ Cruiser the seat belt mount isn't flat compared to the pics, why?We should point out that we are constantly educating ourselves to the small differences between the Tacoma and the FJC mounting setup. In this instance the seat belt mounting bracket is different. On the Tacoma it's flat and on the FJC it has an offset for the armrest and the side seat lift ratcheting arm. Otherwise it mounts the same but just needs a longer mounting bolt which we will supply.

Why are my airbag and seat belt light illuminated after doing the seat upgrade? After upgrading your OEM Toyota seats to Scheel-Mann seats using the Tolerance Stack adapter, the wiring harnesses need to be plugged back in to function properly. In this instance the customer has both the seat belt light and the airbag light illuminated on their 2022 Tacoma. Since both the seat belt and the occupancy sensor are completely different circuits, they only way they could be related is from the connector that combines both of those circuits. It needs to be fully seated.
-
So I installed the Scheelmann Driver side seat with the Tolerance Stack in my 2018 Tacoma yesterday. Everything worked afterward and no “error” lights. Installed the passenger side today. Attempted the manual Calibration. Didn’t work it throws up the red Seatbelt dash light, the red Airbag dash light and the orange x2 Airbag light. We would suggest to first tilt the seat back and make sure you have all the connectors fully plugged in and seated. The ones from the floor, the occupancy sensor computer (black box w/ 2 large connectors), the seat belt connector (harness to harness), and the ones into the four sensors themselves. If anything is not communicating then all the lights will come on similar to what you are describing.
