FAQs: Troubleshooting
Start here if something isn't working after a seat upgrade. Most problems come down to a connector that isn't plugged in or a part of the circuit that was left out.

Before you start
Q: Is it safe to unplug the yellow airbag connectors?
A: Only with the power off. Turn the ignition off, disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait at least 90 seconds before unplugging or plugging in any yellow SRS connector. The airbag system stores power for a short time after the battery is disconnected.
Airbag light
Q: Why is my airbag light on?
A: In a Toyota or Lexus, the airbag light doesn't mean one airbag is missing. It means the airbag system has shut itself off for the whole vehicle, because it can't tell which part of the circuit is open. Any open circuit at the seat will turn it on.
Q: I installed an airbag proxy but the light is still on.
A: The proxy only replaces the seat airbag. On the driver side, the circuit also needs the seat belt buckle switch and the driver position sensor, a U-shaped sensor mounted on the factory rail. Both must be plugged back into the floor harness. On the passenger side, the occupant sensing must also be connected: load cells or a pressure pad, depending on the vehicle. Check every connector under the seat.
Q: I lost the driver position sensor's mounting spot.
A: Our driver position sensor mount bolts to your seat mount and gives the sensor a new home. It must stay plugged in.
Q: Everything is plugged in and the light is still on.
A: The fault code may still be stored. Some codes need to be cleared with a scan tool after the problem is fixed. Passenger occupant sensing may also need to be calibrated. See Tech Stream Calibration.
Q: Which airbag proxy do I need?
A: It depends on the connector: Type 1 or Type 2. Send us a photo of both sides of the connector and we'll tell you. See the Airbag Proxy FAQ.
Seat heat and cooling
Q: My seat heater doesn't work.
A: Check that the heater extension harness is fully seated at both ends and that the scheel-mann switch is connected. On trucks without factory heat, confirm the switch has a switched 12V source and a good ground. On trucks with factory heat integration, confirm you have the harness for your configuration.
Q: My dash buttons don't control the cooling.
A: That's expected. KLIMA cooling always runs on the switches that come with the scheel-mann seat, even when the heat runs through your factory buttons.
Power seat
Q: My 5th Gen 4Runner seat won't move fore and aft.
A: Check that the switch on the side panel is connected and that your fore-aft harness matches your truck: with factory heaters or without. See the 4Runner 5th Gen FAQ.
Still stuck?
Q: What should I send you?
A: Your year and model, which side, which mount you installed, the dash lights or codes you're seeing, and photos of the connectors under the seat.
