FAQs: Lexus GX

We get a lot of Lexus GX questions. Here's the straight answer: we can physically mount scheel-mann seats in both the GX470 and GX460, and we can solve some of the sensor issues. We can't yet solve all of the passenger seat sensing, so a passenger seat upgrade today will leave the airbag light on. Getting there takes dedicated development time on a real truck. GX470 (2003-2009)

Q: Can I put a scheel-mann seat in my GX470?

A: Yes, the seats can be physically mounted on both sides. The GX470 shares a lot with the 4th Gen 4Runner, but its rails sit at a slightly different offset, so donor rails are part of the install. Some of the sensor issues can be solved. The passenger seat sensing can't be fully solved yet, so expect an airbag light on a passenger upgrade. The power seat memory feature is lost with any seat upgrade.
 

GX460 (2010-2023)

Q: Can I put a scheel-mann seat in my GX460?

A: Yes, the seats can be physically mounted on both sides, and we have parts that handle the driver seat airbag, seat belt and driver position sensor. The passenger side is the problem.
 

Q: What's wrong with the passenger side?

A: The GX460 passenger seat sits on four load cells that tell the airbag system who is in the seat. We don't have a solution for them yet, so a passenger seat upgrade today will leave the airbag light on. That light means the airbag system is off for the whole vehicle, not just that seat. Some owners modify their sensor brackets to get around it. We don't recommend that, mainly because the modification can't be undone.
 

Q: I'm removing my rear seats. Do you have an airbag proxy for that?

A: Often, yes. Send us a photo of both sides of the connector so we can confirm whether it's Type 1 or Type 2. See our Airbag Proxy FAQ.
 

GX550 (2024 and newer)

Q: Do you have anything for the GX550?

A: Not yet. It isn't in development right now. Contact us if you want to be on the list.
