This quick guide outlines another successful installation of a scheel-mann driver seat in a 100 series Toyota Land Cruiser/LX470. This write-up highlights the solutions for two common issues: resolving the airbag warning light and connecting the factory seat heaters to the new seats.

1. Removing the Original Seat

First, the original driver's seat was removed, the crucial first step for any seat replacement. The image to the right shows the factory leather seat in its original position. The seat is a large, bulky component and its removal is obviously necessary to access the mounting points and wiring. The seat is only held to the floor with (4) 14mm bolts and then a few connectors need to be disconnected but not before disconnecting the battery if you have a seat with a side impact airbag, early 100 series/LX470s did not have these,.

2. Installing the New Seat Brackets

The scheel-mann supplied seat bracket was used to secure the new scheel-mann seat to the vehicle's floor. The image shows the new bracket bolted down in the car, ready for the new seat to be attached. This bracket is specifically designed to fit the vehicle's mounting points, ensuring a secure and safe installation. The photo shows the bolts in place merely as a placeholder to verify the feet all line up since the bracket needs to be mounted to the scheel-mann seat first before installing into the 100 Series/LX470.

3. Preparing the New Seat for Installation

The new scheel-mann seat was prepared for installation by attaching it to the new seat bracket. This step (shown to the right) shows the new seat with the bracket mounted on the bottom. The Tolerance Stack supplied wiring for the new seat, including the connections for the seat heater and safety systems, is also visible. This is a good time to make any necessary adjustments to the seat's position on the bracket before it's permanently installed in the vehicle.

4. Resolving the Airbag Warning Light

A common issue when replacing factory seats is triggering the airbag warning light. The original seat belt buckle contains a switch that is part of the vehicle's Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). When the original seat is removed, this connection is broken, and the car's computer registers an error. For this install though the 100 Series/LX470 was early enough that it didn't contain a side airbag but if your 100 series/LX470 does have one, there is a Tolerance Stack solution for it.

5. Final Installation and Result

After the wiring and mounting were complete, the new scheel-mann seat was carefully installed and bolted into the car. The final images show the new seat in place, looking both stylish and functional. The Gray Plaid design of the scheel-mann seat adds a custom look to the interior, and the successful resolution of the wiring issues ensures all safety and comfort features are operational.

The overall result is a highly successful custom seat upgrade that maintains the vehicle's safety features and creature comforts, all while providing an improved seating experience.
