Integrating Power for scheel-mann Vario Seats into an 80-Series Land Cruiser

80 Series Seat Harness Quick Guide
80 Series Seat Harness Quick Guide

Upgrading to scheel-mann seats in an 80 series is a significant investment in ergonomics and long distance comfort. While our soon-to-be-released custom engineered seat brackets will provide a precision fit foundation, creating a reliable electrical interface is what ensures the heaters and ventilation perform as intended.

We developed this harness kit to provide a secure electrical infrastructure. This spares the end user from hours of forum research trying to navigate ghost plugs or safely source ignition switched power.

The Power Solution: Rear Blower Motor Bridge Harness

Rather than pulling power from the factory seat connector, we utilize the rear blower motor junction located under the passenger seat.

The Blower Junction Layout

The 80 series rear blower assembly uses two distinct plugs: one for its on board relay and one for the power feed. Our Bridge Harness is designed with specific connectors to match the factory inverted locking orientation. This circuit is fed by the 40A FL HEATER fuse, providing the most robust high amperage source in the cabin for constant loads.

Pre-Switched Relay Logic

The primary advantage of this location is that the Bridge Harness is pre-switched. In the factory wiring, the HEATER Relay sits upstream of this junction. This relay is only live when the ignition is in the ON or START position.

  • By tapping in here, your seats inherit this safety feature.

  • When you turn the key off, the HEATER Relay opens and physically severs power to the seats.

  • This makes it impossible to accidentally drain your battery, even if the seat switches are left active.

Why avoid the 6-pin seat floor connector?

On factory power seat models, the 6-pin floor hub is Always Hot, fed by the 30A FL POWER fuse. Pulling heater power from this hub is a common mistake that leads to dead batteries because the circuit remains live even with the key removed. Our solution intentionally ignores this hub so your seats are only active when the engine is running.

Simplified scheel-mann Integration

As shown in our Quick Guide, the Bridge Harness acts as the central power hub for both seats. The integration is straightforward:

  1. Bridge Power: Connect the Bridge Harness to the Rear Blower Motor and the vehicle chassis power harness.

  2. Connect the Seats: Plug the scheel-mann heater harnesses directly into the power leads provided by the Bridge Harness.

  3. Mount the Switches: Choose your preferred location for the scheel-mann round switches. These are typically mounted on the seat base or center console.

Switch Placement and Final Connection

While the power and signal connections follow a strict plug-n-play path, the placement of the scheel-mann round switches (for heat or heat/vent) is left to the installer preference. This is why a final mounting step is not dictated in our wiring graphic.

Common mounting locations include the center console for easy access while driving or modifying a switch blank to mount the round switch. Once you have selected a location and mounted the switches, you simply terminate the scheel-mann power and ground leads into the provided ports on our Bridge Harness.

The OEM Switch Question

A common question is whether the unused plugs under the center console can be used with factory Toyota switches. While certain trucks are pre-wired for these, they are not a viable plug and play option. These circuits are often incomplete in US spec trucks and terminate at junction blocks before reaching the floor. Sourcing both the switches and the termination points takes more time and effort then just utilizing the included scheel-mann switches is the most reliable way to ensure the heating elements and fans operate exactly as intended.

The Driver Seatbelt Connection

Restoring the seatbelt warning loop depends entirely on your factory seat configuration. It is important to note that in the 80 series, there is no passenger side seatbelt harness or sensor. Electrical signal restoration is only required for the driver side.

Factory Power Seats When you remove factory power seats, the internal harness that connects the driver buckle to the floor hub is removed with the seat. We provide a 16 inch braided Seatbelt Harness to bridge this gap. Because we utilize the exact matching keyway for the 80 series buckle, this connection is a direct, secure click with no modifications or trimming required.

Factory Manual Seats Manual seat trucks do not require a seatbelt extension. Because these trucks lack the 6-pin power hub, the factory buckle pigtail features a longer lead that reaches the 2 pin floor harness natively.

Design Philosophy

This kit is a darn near plug-n-play infrastructure. By utilizing the blower motor junction on the floor, there is no need to run new wires through the firewall. The components are encased in braided loom and PVC super flexible tubing to survive the off road environment while remaining easy to tuck safely away from seat tracks and foot traffic.
